We are back to reviewing the Lenovo Legion 5 Gaming Laptop (2021) but what we are discussing this time is the one that meets AMD Advantage standards.

The collaboration between Lenovo and AMD in Legion 5 was able to create a Gaming Laptop that meets all the requirements of AMD Advantage, while still offering an attractive price. It can even be said to be the cheapest when this video was made.

Of course, the Hybrid Mode feature is still provided on this laptop:
  • When turned off, GPU Discrete will continue to be active
  • Make sure Game uses Discrete GPU instead of IGP

  • Meanwhile, when activated, GPU Discrete and IGP will be active alternately
  • This makes the Laptop battery more efficient because the Discrete GPU work will be replaced by IGP when on the Desktop
  • Unfortunately in this mode, RAM capacity is cut for allocation to IGP

This Lenovo Legion 5 uses a Clamshell form factor with the main material using Polycarbonate material. The design it carries is different from the Pro version, where the design of the Lenovo Legion 5 (2021) is indeed designed to hide its identity as a Gaming Laptop. On this laptop, there are very few "Gaming" ornaments and knick-knacks, so it looks more like a minimalist, professional-class laptop. For color choices, there is a Phantom Blue color.

The keyboard on this laptop uses the Legion TrueStrike Gaming Keyboard, where this Gaming Keyboard has a "Soft Landing" type Switch with a large shock absorber area so that it can provide a soft impact sensation when the button is fully pressed. This keyboard is claimed to provide a better experience when used to play games or type.

This keyboard has a Travel Distance of 1.5 MM, supports N-Key Rollover technology and 100% Anti-ghosting, and is equipped with NumPad keys. This position makes typing more comfortable because your hands don't easily enter the keyboard area. Cooling System


Lenovo Legion 5 (2021) uses the latest Legion Coldfront 3.0 cooling system, where the laptop cooling system is equipped with 4 copper heatpipes and 2 fans that cool the CPU, GPU, GDDR6 chip, as well as VRM components. As usual, the Thermal Mode menu is available in the Lenovo Vantage Software to set the Laptop's performance profile with the following options:

Cinebench R15 20X Loop


In Balanced mode, the highest score obtained is 2114 points and has increased to 2208 points in Performance mode. Meanwhile, for a score that can be maintained, we find a range of 2040-2060 points in Balanced mode and increases to 2169-2180 points when Performance mode is activated.


Scores like that are what we expected for this AMD Ryzen processor.

Working Temperature (Cinebench R15 20X Loop)

In Balanced mode, the processor temperature fluctuates in the range of 80-90 °C. While in Performance mode, the processor temperature also experiences ups and downs but is in the range of 87-94 °C.

Working Temperature (Blender GPU Rendering)

The processor temperature slowly rose until it reached a steady point in the range of 58-59 °C although at the end of the test there were several jumps to 68 °C. While the temperature of the Discrete GPU also slowly rises until it reaches a stable point in the range of 60 °C.

In this scenario, the processor temperature slowly rises until it reaches a stable point in the range of 65-66 °C. Meanwhile, the Discrete GPU temperature also slowly rises until it reaches a stable point in the range of 60-61 °C

In this scenario, the working temperature of the processor moves in the range of 90-100 °C . Fortunately, temperature increases of up to 100 °C occur only occasionally and for a short period of time. While the Discrete GPU temperature is in the range of 59-62 °C

Of course, it's not complete if you test a gaming laptop but have not tested its performance while playing games. What was the result like? Check out the performance results below:

Gaming Work Temperature (30 Minutes Assassin's Creed Valhalla)

  • Processor temperature seems stable in the range of 87-88 °C
  • While the working temperature of the Discrete GPU is stable in the range of 70-71 °C

Body Surface Temperature (30 Minutes Assassin's Creed Valhalla)

  • The hottest areas are around the arrow keys and the top side of the keyboard with the highest temperature reaching 45 °C
  • While the temperature of the ASDW button remains safe in the range of 34-36 °C
  • Palmrest temperature still looks similar to our room temperature in the range of 25-26 °C
  • Overall, there is no problem with the Keyboard area which is always used to play the Game

Lenovo Legion 5 Gaming Laptop Test Storage

  • Read – 3606 MB/s
  • Write – 3075 MB/s
This result is of course quite high with speeds that are almost towards the upper limit of the M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 SSD.

We also tested the second M.2 slot on this Laptop with our SSD and the results were:
  • Read – 3472 MB/s
  • Write – 3100 MB/s
So the second M.2 slot is just as tight as the first M.2 slot.

Lenovo Legion 5 (2021) has a capacity of 80 Whr. For battery testing, we used the configuration: Brightness 50% | Volume 25% | Balanced Mode.
